Outdoor Ice Skating Rinks Pop-Up Around Phoenix for the Winter Season


Nothing says it’s the holiday season like ice-skating outdoors with hot chocolate in hand. This week, many pop-up ice rinks are showing up around the Valley so that Arizonans can experience an outdoor skating rink without flocking to colder weather. Here’s a list of the top outdoor skating rinks around the Valley:

CityScape Phoenix Presents CitySkate CityScape is once again hosting their sixth annual CitySkate ice rink in the heart of Downtown Phoenix. The ice rink takes over Central Avenue and features a 36-foot-tall Christmas tree, light shows and skate rentals for all ages. The ice rink will hold photo opportunities with Santa from 4 to 8 pm Fridays through Sundays. CitySkate’s grand opening will be from 3-11 pm on Saturday, November 28th and will feature live music, Santa appearance, snowfall and light show. The ice rink will be open through January 11, 2016. CitySkate is located at 1 E. Washington Street in Downtown Phoenix. Admission ranges from $12-$15 depending on what day you visit. Admission is $8 for children 4-8 years old. Holiday Skate Rink at Westgate Entertainment District

The 2,500-square foot rink at Fountain Park will only be open during Thanksgiving weekend and is expected to have over 3,000 visitors during opening night. Throughout the holidays there will also be opportunities to enjoy horse-drawn carriage rides, Santa Clause visits, snowfall and performances by professional ice skaters.

Public skating hours are 11 am through 6pm on Wednesday, Nov 25 and Sunday, November 29. It will also run from 11am through 9pm on Friday November 27 and Saturday, November 28. The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess Transforms for the Holidays

The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess is known for being one of the best places to experience the magic of the holidays. They have a 6,000 square-foot Desert Ice Skating Rink with real ice and nightly snowfall. There are also opportunities for guests to reserve rink-side fire pits with blankets to enjoy s’more and hot chocolate.

The resort also features a Lagoon Lights exhibit with 2.8 million lights, rides on the Princess Express Train and a four-story musical Christmas tree.
