What’s Old Is New Again
Thursday's the new Friday, as we’ve crammed an entire Weekend Guide into a single night

First stop is the opening reception for a pair of side-by-side studios dedicated to dying artforms. OK, that’s a bit harsh, but there’s no denying that photographer, Harrison Hurwitz, and the graphic artists at SeeSaw Designs are happily swimming against the stream. Longtime Valley shutterbug, Hurwirtz specializes in intricate yet intimate portraits captured on this ancient technology called film (see above). Meanwhile, his new studio mates at SeeSaw combine cutting-edge graphic design—and a quirky blog—with centuries-old printing technology. Long revered by stationary snobs, SeeSaw’s antique letterpress creates hand-fed prints where you can actually feel each bold, colorful ink impression. (4 – 8 pm, 6125 E. Indian School Rd., 602-971-7978)
Over in Arcadia, tonight also marks the unveiling of Radio Café following a lightning-quick revamp of this handsome space formerly known as Radio Milano. (So quick, in fact, that the website still has the old name.) This black sheep of the otherwise super-successful LGO Hospitality group has been rebranded as a, well, we’re not really sure. The wildly-eclectic new bill of fare is described as “cocktails, sushi and spicy music,” sprinkled with a few holdovers from the original Italian-themed menu. Then again, when you’re as successful as LGO prez, and former Houston’s restaurant executive, Bob Lynn, and his partner, Craig DeMarco (Postino), we’re willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. (3950 E. Campbell Ave., 602-956-6600)
