Conspire by the fire at these stormy weather sanctuaries

Whew, that was some storm last night. And you thought you left tornado warnings behind when you migrated from the Midwest. Of course things could be worse. You could be facing a ‘snowpocalypse’ like our friends in Flagstaff, where another foot of snow is expected today. So let’s celebrate our wet, wild start to the new decade at these cozy lounges where the fire’s always a’crackling.
When we want to get away from it all, we head to the Four Seasons in north Scottsdale. Nestled at the base of Pinnacle Peak, this posh resort features plenty of quiet corners and romantic nooks where you can snuggle up by a wood-burning fireplace. Even better, order a Spanish Coffee and watch the sparks fly as Bacardi 151 rum is poured into a large snifter glass rimmed with sugar and then lit on fire. Next cinnamon and nutmeg are tossed into the flame, creating a downpour of sparks that’s dramatically doused by Cointreau, Kahlua and coffee—all topped with whipped cream and Crème de Almond.
Back in Phoenix, The Rokerij (pictured) is a sumptuous Dutch-style steakhouse tucked inside a handsome, house-like setting. However, we’re here for the striking cocktail lounge, hidden down a steep flight of stairs leading to the basement. Here, you can cuddle up inside the deep leather booths or squeeze onto the stone slab jutting out from the always-roaring fireplace. And speaking of burning embers, ever since sister restaurant, Richardson’s, burst into flames, The Rokerij also serves up all your favorite menu items from the famed New Mexican eatery.
