Towering Above Tempe

Tempe's long-abandoned twin towers overlooking Mill Ave are finally ready for residents

Good news for Tempe urbanists and well-heeled ASU students as the posh West 6th Street Tempe Towers are finally open for business with move in scheduled for this August 1. Never heard of West 6th Street? That’s because it was formerly known as Centerpoint Condos, i.e. the twin high-rise towers that have been hulking, half-built and abandoned, over Mill Avenue for years now.

Originally conceived as luxury condos (you know, for all those hundreds of millionaires just dying to live above a college town and stumble home from Fat Tuesday), this high-profile project has been stalled since mid-2008, when the Valley’s real estate market went in the tank. Well, that and the fact that the local banker behind the whole boondoggle committed suicide inside his Arcadia mansion (after dressing dressing up in his finest tuxedo). But getting back to our customary place on the sunny side of the street, these luxury rentals are officially on the market and look absolutely gorgeous. Click here to view a picture gallery of these deeeeluxe apartments in the sky-hi-hi. But just know, lucky ASU students, if you ever invite someone over who’s living in a cramped, crowded dorm, they might just move into your walk-in closet.
