Weekend Guide
Hop on your Vespa and get ready to soak in some serious culture (and hotdogs and beer)
They say there’s no such thing as a free lunch, but what about a free opera in the park? Well grab your pic-a-nic blanket and your love for live music because this Saturday, March 26, the Arizona Opera company presents a complimentary screening of La bohème at the outdoor Scottsdale Civic Center Amphitheater. For those all of us needing a quick refresher, La bohème is set in 19th-century Paris and tells the romantic tale of two young lovers and their Bohemian circle of friends (it also inspired the Broadway smash Rent). Filmed live in 2010 at Phoenix Symphony Hall, this screening of La bohème starts at 7:30 pm with a live performance by AZ Opera singers, followed by the film on the big screen.
Speaking of fun (and free) screenings, drop by the posh InterContinental Montelucia Resort in Paradise Valley this Sunday for an al fresco showing of the Audrey Hepburn classic, Roman Holiday. Hosted inside a spacious Spanish-style courtyard, the resort’s new monthly cinema series features classic films such as Casablanca and Chocolat, that are all set in the same exotic destinations that inspired the property’s stunning Mediterranean design and architecture. Get there early and enjoy a European-chic menu of cheeses, cured meats, wine, chocolate, Italian coffee and house-made gelato.
Last but not least, soak in this gorgeous Spring weather with this list of the best places to hang before or after a Spring Training game. Put together by our pals at Yelp Phoenix, from dive-y classics like the Coach House in Downtown Scottsdale, to boot-scootin’ good times like Rustler’s Rooste and the Rusty Spur, this list has something for every appetite (or thirst).
