Better Off Ted?
So long Mondrian Scottsdale, hello Theodore Hotel
The last few years have been pretty tumultuous for the local hospitality scene. The iconic Wigwam Resort
had to be rescued from bankruptcy
by a group led by former Phoenix Suns owner, Jerry Colangelo
. Meanwhile, both the super-sleek, W Scottsdale
, and the Spanish stunner, InterContinental Montelucia
, have struggled to pay back their construction loans after opening in the middle of an economic downturn.
That said, lounge lizards and hotel hipsters recently received some good news about another fav hangout. Hotel Theodore
has now set up shop inside the stylish downtown Scottsdale property formerly known as the Mondrian Hotel. Named after President Theodore Roosevelt, this boutique property is managed by the same company that operates the prestigious The US Grant
in downtown San Diego. Future plans are sketchy at press time, however, we do know the hotel's signature lounges have been renamed Teddy’s Lounge and T’s, while the upscale Italian Cielo restaurant remains unchanged.
