The Devil Is In The Details

Even if you don’t recognize his name, chances are you’ve admired Werner Segarra’s lush, stylish photographs. His vibrant architectural images regularly grace the covers of magazines such as Phoenix Home & Garden, while his eye-catching commercial work includes everything from Avon catalogs to Bud Light billboards. But he says he’s never exhibited anything as personal and from-the-heart as his show at Gebert Contemporary Gallery in downtown Scottsdale.

Entitled “Vaqueros de la Cruz del Diablo” (or Cowboys of the Devil Cross) the show features 20 oversized works documenting daily life in the tiny village of Huasabas, in Sonora, Mexico. A Puerto Rican of German descent, Segarra has lived in various countries throughout the world. But he’s always been drawn to this small town situated in the Sierra Madre Mountains, and his love of the town is reflected in this collection of images that portray a way of life, religious customs, culture, work and architecture.  Through Jan 31.
