Weekend Guide

There's a 'Situation' coming to town, and we're scared, very scared

Heads up, everybody. Weekend Guide! Weekend Guide’s a’coming. And it looks like there’s a storm brewing on the horizon. But we’re not talking about the rainy weekend forecast. We’re talking about a certain obnoxious, spray tan-loving diva named Snooki Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, who will be flexing his way across the Valley on Saturday. Yes, Sorrentino, whom we’re still convinced is at least 45, will be here shilling his signature Devotion Vodka, infused with something called casein, aka a milk protein used in workout supplements. So, um, gross. Get your G.T.L. on from 3-5 pm at Total Wine at Desert Ridge in North Phoenix, or at Axis-Radius in Scottsdale at 11 pm.

But why settle for one hairy, muscular and extravagantly-costumed entertainer, when you can take in hundreds of them? Yes, the 56th annual Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show kicked off on Thursday and will run through next Sunday at WestWorld. Billed as the world’s largest exhibition of these beautiful beasts, this event attracts horse lovers from across the world, including Wayne Newton and Middle Eastern royals. However, casual fans and even little cowpokes will find plenty of boot-scootin’ fun, including shopping, an ice cream social and (today only) free admission for the entire family.

Last but not least, feed your inner night owl as couple of famed local eateries will be rolling out new offerings. Over at the posh perch that is J&G Steakhouse atop The Phoenician, they are celebrating the full moon tonight starting at 5:30 pm with a $30 all-inclusive tasting featuring a lights-out assortment of aphrodisiacs and Champagne-based cocktails. Meanwhile, over at Pane Bianco in Phoenix, famed chef Chris Bianco has finally expanded to dinner (5- 8 pm), featuring a compact menu of from-scratch soups and hearty Italian entrees.
