Weekend Guide

Grab your passport and your spandex tights because we’re touring Asia, Europe and ... Glendale?

Just because MTV’s “Jersey Shore” has wrapped up its season, doesn’t mean you can’t get your fix of big hair, spandex and spray-on tans this weekend. Yes, the shirtless extravaganza that is WrestleMania XXVI backflips into University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale this Sunday. However, this Super Bowl of fake fighting is only the tip of the wrasslin’ iceberg, including several events you’d never associate with professional grappling.

Hosted at the Burton Barr Central Library (1221 N. Central Ave., 602-262-4636) this Saturday from 10 am – noon, the WrestleMania Reading Challenge Championship features teen readers competing for ringside seats to the big show. Also on Saturday, pro wrestlers Mick Foley and Colt Cabana will be performing a stand-up smackdown at the Total Extreme Comedy Tour. (ASU Gammage, 1200 S. Forest Ave., 480-965-3434)

For something completely different, drop by this weekend’s  WorldFEST 2010 at Heritage & Science Park. This globe-straddling (and free) celebration of Phoenix’s nine sister cities kicks off today at 4 pm with more than 40 craft beers from around the world. On Saturday, children 12 and under will be issued a passport as they tour booths representing each of the sister cities, including Catania, Italy and Himeji, Japan. And on Sunday, celebrate Asia Pacific Day with cultural displays and cooking demos, as well as a chance win prizes such as round-trip tickets to anywhere US Airways flies, an 18-person luxury suite at a Diamondbacks game, and a two-night stay at The Phoenician Resort, including dinner for two at Il Terrazzo and a round of golf. (115 N. 6 St., 602-534-7358)
